Art Sonje Center is pleased to announce an online seminar in relation to Jane Jin Kaisen’s 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨. Working on the themes of history, memory, translation, and migration, Jane Jin Kaisen suggests a community of recovery and resilience by juxtaposing the voices of those who have been oppressed or marginalized based on her research on shamanism through her work 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 (2019). In this seminar, we will explore the main subjects of the artist’s work with key scholars in Korea who have studied shamanism, diaspora, and the modern history of Korea. The seminar will start with a reading by the poet Hyesoon Kim, followed by an introduction of the artist. Next will be a presentation by Prof. Seong Nae Kim and Prof. Soyoung Kim, while having Prof. Jie-Hyun Lim as a moderator. There will also be a QnA session, where the audience will be able to participate through an online chat via YouTube live streaming service.
