Curator Talk: Jenni Nurmenniemi
On this Saturday (December 2), there will be a curator’s talk of an exhibition ‘Frontiers in Retreat: Edge Effect – Active Earth at Art Sonje Center, 1F. This exhibition is an outcome of an exceptionally long project (Frontiers in Retreat 2013–2018). It is a collaborative residency platform that supports artistic research and production that concerns itself with ‘ecology’ at seven ‘remote’ and often small-scale residencies at the edges of Europe. During the talk event, the curator, Jenni Nurmen, leading and co-curating the project since 2013, will talk how the researches and productions have been done so far and reshaped in the context of East Asia, Seoul, and at the Art Sonje Center.
*The exhibition opens til forthcoming Sunday (3 December).
About the Speaker
Jenni Nurmenniemi is a Helsinki based curator whose practice focuses on supporting artistic experimentation and on sparking unexpected dialogues across disciplinary and other boundaries. Since 2012, she has been working as curator with Helsinki International Artist Programme (HIAP), one of the largest residency programmes for artists and curators in Northern Europe. Currently a central part of Nurmenniemi’s curatorial work is the project Frontiers in Retreat, a five-year international collaboration platform that fosters artistic and multidisciplinary approaches with ecological perspectives, within a network of artist residencies that are situated, in one way or another, at different frontier zones.
