Artist Talk: Hyun A Cho

In association with Hyun A Cho’s solo exhibition I would like to h/ear someone’s voice. The radio is my only friend, the artist talk programme will take place at Parallax Hanok in the Art Sonje Center at 3pm on Saturday, the 13th of May. Hyun A Cho invited three individuals to participate as members of the panel: Minhwa Yun(independent curator), Haejin PAHNG(Critic) and Seung-ki Min(Philosopher). The three panelists will discuss Hyun A Cho’s on-going projects and her complex, creative world. Focusing on the particular notion of an ‘inter-mediator’ – which has been the key concept in most of Hyun A Cho’s works – the panelists and the artist will share their ideas from different perspectives, including how Hyun A Cho faces and deals with her temporality. The panel will also touch upon Cho’s experiences with the others, reflecting on her art and writing practice.

About the Artist

Hyun A Cho (b. 1974) studied Fine Art Media and Photography at the Slade School of Fine Art (UCL) and Royal College of Art in London. While working with writing, performance, video/sound installation and photography, Hyun A Cho has explored the presence of insignificant ‘folds’ within the ‘various forms of life’. Basing her work on her own private experiences, the artist reflects upon the notion of a floating, wandering existence by composing her narratives on contemporary living conditions. Concerned with ‘points of rupture’, ‘symptoms of beauty’, and the ‘ambiguities of our human condition and reality’, Cho weaves her practice around the intellectual, psychological and physical spaces of impossibility as well as around the state of the undetermined that is derived from languages, time, memories, histories and places.
