Performance: ByungJun Kwon, Between the Floors
When the clock, wound up in a spring, slowly goes and lifts the second hand up towards the vertical angle, the echoes here, nursed the other world, are scattered through eloquent curves of the gigantic wooden sculpture. The water ascending through the sound stream becomes the clouds. Worn over the space below, the iron lumps turn into a thunder making the clouds dark and rain. So if you don’t wish to stray in the shadows of little lights in the dark, prick up your ears like a bat and focus on your sound that is bounced back in the space.
In Art Sonje Center, a group exhibition ‘Point Counter Point’ is currently on view. Here, the works of five artists, Donghee Kim, Minae Kim, Jong Oh, Soosung Lee, and Goeun Choi use the spatial form and context of Art Sonje Center’s second and third floor galleries as its material and starting point. At 5pm on April 7, Sat, a sound artist ByungJun Kown’s new performance piece ‘Between the Floors’ will be introduced throughout the exhibition spaces on both the 2nd and 3rd floor. The two-story exhibition spaces are interrelated through the sound. The sound inputs on the upstairs are heard through speakers on the downstairs and the sounds from downstairs are directed towards the upstairs and come back with the echoes of each space.
Based on the sounding system of cross feedback loop, ByungJun Kwon and Bae Minkyung forward each other’s own interpretation of the spaces to each other. The performance will attempt to amplify the forms and ambiance of the works, and transform them into the audible, through which the psychological distance between the floors can be shaken.
