Art Sonje Center is delighted to present a live sound performance event in conjunction with the exhibition Tarek Atoui: The Rain on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

Tarek Atoui: The Rain functions as a stage for captivating musical performances. During the Preview Opening event, Atoui, alongside traditional instrument artisan In Seok Seo, presented a mesmerizing live sound performance using the installation’s instruments.

On December 21, our second musical showcase will feature the talented young musician Taehyun Choi, who will explore the element of ‘wind’—one of the four essential elements in the exhibition. Using balloons and a contact microphone, Choi’s performance will merge with the sounds produced by the instruments in Space 1 along with Atoui’s original electronic compositions, forming a new and unique sonic landscape. By collaborating with diverse musicians and artisans, Tarek Atoui: The Rain aims to establish connections between spaces, objects and people.

This event is part of the ASJC Nights Program, offering an immersive late-night museum experience complete with curator-led tours, wine, and delightful snacks.

Musician Taehyun Choi

Taehyun Choi embarked on his artistic journey in 2010, driven by a pursuit of simplicity, spontaneity, and audacity in both performances and album creations. In the duo band ‘Kkangprogram’ (2011~), he crafts compositions, handles guitar, and lends vocals, aiming to infuse improvisation into a pop-driven sound. His solo venture (2013~) delves into electronic devices’ recursion, object vibrations, and internet randomness, utilizing sound sampling for compositions. Exploring the blend between mainstream and experimental music, he revels in the performer’s mastery over transition and morphing. Additionally, as a side project, he’s part of the electronic duo THSS (2017~).
