Kim Soun Gui: Stock Exchange
This is the first-ever solo exhibition of the video artist, Kim Soun Gui, in Korea. Well-known in the international art scene with her involvement in early experimental video art and the Fluxus, Kim, a contemporary of Nam June Paik, still sustains the spirit of the early video art in her works.
Kim shows her recent works in all of Art Sonje’s main exhibition areas, including the Hanok (traditional Korean house). Her works Stock Trading and Lotto Village reflect the artist’s philosophical views on stocks and capitalism and the heartless technological outcomes, which control the life of human beings beyond their social variables. In addition, Kim exhibits video installations to represent the political metaphor of North and South Korea in such works as The Herdsman and the Weaver, as well as the series of photographic works showing her ordinary life.
