Joo Jae-hwan is an artist who stood at the center of popular art in the 1980’s, yet was simultaneously viewed from the outer edges with criticism, wit and strict self-assessment. Since the late 1970s, Joo Jae-hwan has been inspired by intense visions and views on society while living outside the art world. Rather than creating unidentifiable academic art works, the artist portrays “real art” as he experiences by merging life and time. His use of ordinary materials and his own critical points of views allows the viewer to see his works in various different realms. The exhibition formulates and evokes lively discussions in the contemporary Korean art world.
