Chung Seoyoung is an artist who creates conditions of different experiences that arise from facing unfamiliar situations caused by familiar, everyday objects. Chung utilizes various ordinary materials, such as carpet, Styrofoam, sponge, wood, and glass, in their unprocessed or half-processed forms in order to capture their generic characteristics and further mimic their functional aspects in her works. To the artist, the materials she uses appear as humorously suggested languages that create a new condition of experience by focusing on the meaning of objects rather than the material itself. In addition, her Carbon Paper Drawing series investigates her unique sensibility on the relationship between objects and language.
