For the 2011 Art Sonje Lounge Project Nayoungim and Gregory Maass present Powr Mastrs. Their project re-configures a large-scale sculpture, produced in Norway, into the Art Sonje Lounge. The original, Jaded Zombies from the Stratosphere, adopted a visual language incorporating Pop and Suprematist elements to translate the Norwegian landscape (its steep mountains, jagged coastlines and deep fjords) into multiple surfaces hanging from the ceiling. Powr Mastrs takes already existing objects of knowledge, the frameworks and structures they are presented in, and displays various objects, from the artistic to the natural and ethnographic, to draw attention to how their meanings are constituted, and address the ‘readymade.’ To complement and activate this program the Artonje Lounge invites Norwegian artist Jan Christensen to present a workshop and participatory audio installation that creates an environment for exploring sonority, musicality, participation and collaboration by combining sounds produced by a variety of objects and sources into impromptu ‘found’ compositions.
